Richmond

Nijmegen

Breeding in the winter wonder land. very bad weather today in teh Netherlands, snow, rain, wind, very cold. Fortunately this Peregrine couple has a warm and protected nestbox.

James River Bridge

They've moved the camera angle, and I'm sorry but it is not an improvement guys. We can't see anything anymore. But what we do see is that the water is quite nearby. Peregrines always choose their nest in the immediate proximity of water. They like to take a bath. Especially the juvi's love to play in the water with eachother and bath on a dialy basis. Sometimes even twice a day. They are just like little children, playing and enjoying the incredible gift of life.

Indianapolis

Three brown-reddish eggs are the treasure of Kinney and KathyQ. At approximately 3:10 afternoon on the 21st Indy time the egg was "born". The fourth will be an Easteregg

In the Netherlands snow as well. But the Eemsmond peregrines have a great nestbox and are well protected by it. Thank you Werkgroep Slechtvalken Nederland and Electrabel for taking care so very good for the Dutch peregrines.

Terminal Tower: snow

Horrible weather conditions for SW and Buckeye. During the night it was even worse. Peregrine Falcons can stand this, but it does look awful. They will not leave the nest, only change guard. They are very well protected by their preened feathers. These are absolutely water and snow proof. They fill the downfeather underlayer with air, and create a warm isolating layer around their body. Like a downbed. The broodpatch keeps the eggs at 38 C. The many hours they spend daily on preening is a matter of life and death. If they don't they will freeze, get soaking wet, become ill and die.
So dearest SW and Buckeye, hang in there. And please gods of rain and snow go away and give us sunshine.
