Derby Cathedral Juvies

Peculiar weather in Derby today, from a bright summersday into dense fog, rain, right into sunshine. Th ejuvies don't mind.
Juvies love water and often use heavy rain as a shower. I have often seen them enjoy themselves standing in the rain, washing and brushing themselves by moving wings and feathers. Juveniles like to baths on a daily basis, sometimes twice a day. Like children love to swim. Peregines always pick their nestsite close to water. In the Netherlands for instance most nestsites are along the 3 big rivers in our country.
The falcon and the tiercel also take a bath often. It is difficult to catch them doing that, but there are videoclips showing bathing peregrines. It's fun to watch.

The Derby falcon went out hunting during the rain because she brought a big prey back. She was real wet and plucky!! In no time there was that bed of feathers again and a hungry youngster. She left the prey to the youngsters and left.

Before the rain came, clicking through 4000 screenshots I noticed how the leftover preyitems are alive.....Lots of real big flies and other little creatures are having a real delicious meal up there. It's a mess really, my oh my, but the rain cleaned it up and washed it clean.

The day ended in one of those beautiful evenings with all those pink-blue-zaur skies. How grand our planet is in all her splendor....

De Mortel: what a day!!

This afternoon around lunchtime 2 juveniles landed on the ledge in front of the ledgecam. It was one of the tiercels and the youngest falcon. After I have been to their banding somehow I know who is who.
The tiercel left, but the sweet falcon stayed for over an hour. And my... is she beautiful. With her fluffy featherdress she looks like her wonderful mother S2, but she has the kind eyes of her father Pa.
This little falcongirl showed us her bandnumber. For some reason the WSN did not want us to know the bandnumbers of these 4 or publish it on teh internet.
The youngsters however thought different and have showed us their orange band and number.
So we have the picture complete now!

The eldest is a tiercel with DG
The second is a falcon with AF
The third is a tiercel with DF
The fourth is a falcon with AD

Columbus: Boomer en Justice fledged again

value="http://www.youtube.com/v/9aHojR440Qc&hl=en">

We have been enjoying Justice and her brother Boomer staying on the ledge in the past days. But they have recovered from their adventures and left this morning.
So they are healthy and strong enough. They have decided to leave so it is OK.
Boomer left first and came back to get Justice and then they left together.
So Boomer knows the way back and can make it all the way up to the 41 level. Maybe they will visit the ledge once more in the next days. Would be awesome.
Scout, happy the ledge is hers again, stayed a while and visited the nestbox.
So we have an empty ledge again. Do hope we will get updates about how the 4 fledglings are doing.

Thank to SkyGirlBlue for both video"s !
