Isn't this just great. The Alcoa eyases have hatched on World Animal Day. I did predict this, but prediction and Peregrine falcons is always a tricky combination. But we do have eyases overhere. At least 2 have hatched within 12 hours.
The most ideal situation is when all eyases hatch within 24 hours. Like for instance in James River Bridhe last sprin. In order to achieve this, incubation is not starting until the second to last egg has been laid. In that way the embryonal development is starting for all eggs at the same time. During the hatchproces the 3 eyases cheer eachother up by vocalisations from within the egg. So they all know the other ones are on their way as well. For the parents it is most exciting to hear their eyases for the very first time. The female stays with her eggs and watches what is going on. She will never ever assist in hatching though. The eyas does this alone, in it's own time. Even when it goes wrong, she will not assist. When the little one has freed itself of the shell, the parents moves the empty shell away or eats it.
