Hatching
When the eyas pips trough the membrane to the aircell it will breath for the very first time. From that moment on, it can use it's voice and it sure does. From within the eggshell you can hear it scream very softly. The eyases in the other eggs do the same. They do this so they know from eachother they are about to hatch. They encourage eachother to hatch as well by screaming. It is the very form of communication between the brothers and sisters. They do this so there will be not to much timedifference between hatching. The parents of course react to these little voices as well by ee-chupping, or just chupping. The mother does not leave the eggs anymore, she stays no matter what. Except Mariah of Rochester. Kaver often is the one who is there when his babies hatch. The parent by the way will never assist in the hatching proces. The eyas will hatch in it's own time. It takes about 24-48 hours to make the great escape. As soon as it is born it will try crawling under the wings of it's mother. She helps by gently pushing it. She eats parts of the eggshells or just throws it away.
Rochester: still no 2nd egg
It is about 90 hours since Mariah laid her first egg. She looks definitely gravid and seems to be in labour. But no egg yet. She once managed 106 hours in between eggs. Or is she still being borthered by the intruding female. Which we do not know? Such events can have a delaying effect on the eggproduction or rather on the ovulation. We'll just have to wait and see. Mariah always surprises us.
Oberhausen: first eyas!
Welcome to the world precious little one, we are so happy with this new gift of life.
Sleep and grow strong to become a mighty falcon soaring on the winds of our blue earth.
