Derby Cathedral Peregrine Project
We are heading towards the first hatch in the Derby scrape. Estimated day May 5-6. Watch out for teh first signs of soft screaming coming from the eggs. The parents will get excited by that. The female will not leave the scrape anymore and will very often look at the eggs, put them under again, look at them, listen to the eggs, ee-chipping, etc. Until she sees a pip. She will stare at the pip, stand aside and look at the eggs. And will keep the pipped egg between her wingarms.
Hatching itself takes 48 hours from the first rapture of the aircell membrane until the eggshell splits open. So we are at the brink of some very exciting days together with our peregrine couple.
More exciting news is that new DVD entitled "The Peregrines of Derby Cathedral" is now available for purchase. It tells the story of Derby's peregrine falcons and features Chris Packham, well-known as a BBC TV presenter but also as a vice-president of The Wildlife Trusts.
Everybody who loves peregrine falcons should order this great DVD.
