Nijmegen: trouble again?

The peregrines in Nijmegen keep alert. They still seem to be on the watchout for the intruder. Both male and female at the nestbox. I don't hope the intruder will come back. We certainly do not want this clutch to be in danger. Last year we've had enough sorrow and heartbreak with the big problems in De Mortel with S2.
But unfortunately territorial disputes are part of the peregrines life.

Oberhausen eyases

Oberhausen: 12 days old eyases

The eyases in Oberhausen are growing very fast. They are 12 days old now. The chicks are beginning to sit upright on their bottom with their enormous feet in front of them. But most of the time they lean on eachother. The very beginnings of wing feather development are also seen around this time. The primary flight feathers are the first to grow. The feathers grow inside a shaft and these will become more and more visable the upcoming days along the edges of the winghand. Next are the secondary flight feathers and tailfeathers. The chicks will start preening as well, they do that by instinct.
The eldest chick in Oberhausen has discovered it has wings, and is flapping away.

There a very suicidal pigeon sitting just below the nest. Home delivery of food....

Cobb Island

When the eyases will hatch here we will have spectacular photo's for sure! Still 11 days to go though!

Bologna

The eyases are already 7 days old. That means that they still need the protection of their parents. The first down is growing fast. As soon as that is complete they have their own thermoregulation. The pink skin is still shows through.

Hatch-Eggtable

With all the eggs practically laid, and hatching in progress the table comes in handy to see which nests will hatch next.

Three babies have hatched, Sir James and Elisabeth are busy feeding them and breeding the last egg.
