Chichester Cathedral peregrines live video
Last night I received an email from Anne Thorneloe who asked me to take a look at the cHichester Falcons. Well I did and what a great webcam project this is. Thank you Anne. I'm sorry I did not know about this Project before. What a great stream!
Introducing the peregrine falcons of CHICHESTER Cathedral.
The four chicks hatched on April 28 all within the hour. They have been banded already. The peregrine falcons at Chichester Cathedral have been resident in their special nest-box provided and maintained by Sussex Ornithological Society since 2001None of the 4 eggs hatched in that first year, but they have successfully raised 22 chicks to date, with 4 chicks in 2007.
In 2007 Graham and Theo Roberts ringed 4 peregrine chicks, on behalf of The Sussex Ornithological Society and RSPB. This year the brood comprises 3 males and a female. Females are larger and have noticeably bigger feet. As previously, each was fitted with a numbered colour-ring. It is hoped that this will enable their future movements to be followed. It is interesting and pleasing to know that a female chick ringed from this nesting box in 2002 is now breeding in Sussex.
Over the winter months at least one of the peregrine parents is likely to remain around the Cathedral Precincts. Their nesting box is in the south east turret.
The chicks are expected to fledge between June 18 and 20.
