De Mortel

We are still working on the nestbox cam. The images are not the way we want it. At night the quality is not OK. The ledgecam however is wonderful. The images are very sharp and the colors optimal. We want the nestboxcam to give us the same quality, so a little work still needs to be done. But we are confident it will be just great by the time Pa and S2 start a new family! And the livestream starts.

De Mortel: bonding in the new nestbox

Today we watched the first visit Pa and S2 made to the new nestbox.
And they sure seemed to like it a lot.
It was a very beautiful sunny wintersday in the Netherlands today. Nature immediately reacts on the sunshine.
Pa and S2 decided to go to the new nestbox for serious bonding. They were ee-chupping and displayed some head-bow-low.

We are very happy with the new webcams. Just look at the amazing colors.!! Imagine what kind of awesome stream we will have next season!!

De Mortel: new nestbox

After 4 years of excellent service the old green nestbox was removed yesterday and replaced by a brandnew one. The box was made by the local Bird Workgroup from Gemert.
We wanted to instal new camera's as well, so both could be done at the same time. Roel Zwiers our technician uninstalled nestbox cam, microphone and the ledgecam. And installed a new nestboxcam, microphone and a new ledgecam. The new box was then placed on the grate and attached to the ledge.
The view from the ledge cam is aboslutely superb. The view from the nestbox is not yet OK, but we will fix that as well. So we can all enjoy S2, Pa and their new eyases next season.

Both S2 and Pa came to watch what the heck was going on, did some protesting for 10-15 minutes and left to prech and preen on the first ring.

De Mortel: Pa preening

What Zenmasters they are, our peregrine falcons. The way they seem to achieve states of deep relaxation and meditation when they perch. They sit for hours and hours just on their perchplace looking into endless depths of wisdom.
Watching a peregrine like that makes you wonder.....

Our Pa was sitting in the entrance of the nestbox for 2 hours, just watching the clouds go by, doing nothing. Then he started preening, a bit of preening oil here, a bit of manicure there and back to the meditative state. Wonderful creatures they are, peregrine falcons.

De Mortel: update

All is well at De Mortel. That's the most important message. 2 Of the 4 juvs have left the Tower, and 2 are still around. Both are able to hunt for themselves and bring their catch back to the Tower. They mantle and defend their prey when S2 wants to join in for a bite: no way Mum.
Pa and S2 are returning to the scrape to renew their pairbond every now and then. The webcams are still transmitting and will be all winter!
