Heidelberg: an encore!

The nestbox is in the helmet of the steeple above the clock behind
the small "window"!


Now that both juveniles, Gerd and Jurgen have fledged we do focus again on beautiful Aurora and Phönix. What special names indeed.
Mr Hans Martin Gäng has been involved with and is in fact the leader of this project from 1999!After the recovery of the DDT disaster oeregrine falcons where seen in heidelberg in 1999. A 2 year old banded female and an older male started nesting in the Kirchturm in Heildelberg. The female was Aurora and she is still teh resident falcon. 2 years ago her partner did not come back and Phönix started courting Aurora. This year they had their 2nd nest together.





Heidelberg is a city in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Heidelberg lies on the river Neckar at the point where it leaves its narrow, steep valley in the Odenwald to flow into the Rhine valley. It is very beautiful overthere. And I'm sure the peregrines love it.



Aurora


Mr Gäng did send me a couple of great pictures of the nestsite, and of Aurora and Phönix. They where not very pleased when mr Gäng was cleaning out the nestite yesterday and protested loudly. They still are very territotial about it, even though the juveniles have fledged.

Both eyases are 10 days old today and doing very well!

Zurich: finally a peregrine again

It's very hard to catch one of them, but here we are. Still incubating in an alcove in the wall. So we can not see anything. They are certainly incubating there. We however will not know how many eggs there are or how many eyases have hatched untill they show them selves on the platform.
